Agenda 2030 was born
New Youth Sector Strategy 2030
On Thursday, 23 January 2020, we launched the new Council of Europe youth sector strategy 2030.
After two years of development process in the decision-making body of the Council of Europe youth sector, the Committee of Ministers formally adopted the Council of Europe Youth Strategy 2030 which will provide the policy guidance and a broad political roadmap for the period 2020-30.
We launched the new Agenda with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, after a lively exchange of views with the Minister's deputies.
Last year was not an easy one for the Council of Europe and especially for the youth sector that was seriously threaten by the budgetary crisis of the Institution. With the support of the vast majority of Member States and all the European youth organisations, we emerged stronger, and soon after, we were awarded the Bronze Future Policy Award 2019, as one of the world's best policies to empower young people.
We look forward to seeing the new youth strategy for the next decade serving as the basis to assist young people to act as powerful catalysts for positive change, shaped with free and democratic thinking and equipped with the knowledge and skills to cope with the increased demands of our modern times.
Being a member of the drafting team of Agenda 2030 has been a strong experience and a big honour. Hats off to all the great people in the statutory bodies of the youth sector and the secretariat for their contributions and amazing cooperation.
